Can anyone recommend a good, independently-owned York hotel that would be suitable for an anniversary weekend?

Q) I'm looking for a luxury hotel in York to take my wife to for our wedding anniversary. I'm hoping to find somewhere close to the city centre. I'd also prefer somewhere privately-owned, rather than just opting for one of the chains. I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

A) In August 2006, we stayed at Four High Petergate, which is a smallish boutique hotel, right inside Bootham Bar gate; a block from York Minster. The hotel's restaurant is smallish also, but very good food. It may not be as luxury as you want (whatever that may be), but it is very good, and very convenient to exploring York.

A) You ask, "Does anyone know . . . ?" The answer to that question, whether ANYONE KNOWS, is certainly there must be someone out there who knows. But is that what you really were asking about? Maybe you wished to determine HOW MANY people know?

Cheap and Great Hostel - New York City/Brooklyn?

Q) Hi I live in Brooklyn and my parents are coming for a visit from Bulgaria. I was wondering if you can recommend any Hostels or 2 star cheap hotels which DO look good and are not a gross room with a sink in the middle and roaches coming out of it. My parents won't care about great luxury but i also can't put them in a hipster style dump. Any ideas?

A) Have you thought of bed and breakfasts? Many people in Brownstone Brooklyn who own large houses rent out 2 or more rooms as "bed and breakfast" type lodging. I have put my family up in several of these. They were very nice, indeed, and much cheaper than a hotel. Below you will find a few links:
